MCP Server

Cost Plus Drugs MCP Connector

A Model Context Protocol server that exposes the same CPD and TCC pricing data documented on this site as tools an AI assistant can call directly — search, price lookups, pharmacy location, and multi-prescription order estimates.

Overview

The MCP server is a thin proxy: every tool call ultimately hits the same read-only endpoints described in the Pricing & Network API reference (/pricelist/*, /pharmacies/tcc). It adds no pricing logic of its own except for the multi-prescription order estimator, which applies CPD's per-order dispensing and shipping rules on top of the raw price list data.

Use it to let Claude (or any MCP-compatible client) answer questions like “what would my three prescriptions cost delivered in one 90-day order?” with real, current pricing instead of guessing.

Connect to Claude

Connector URL https://mcp.costplusdrugs.com
Transport MCP Streamable HTTP
Authentication None required
Connector URL
https://mcp.costplusdrugs.com
  1. Open your connector settings

In Claude (web or desktop), go to Settings → Connectors, reachable from your profile menu.

  2. Add a custom connector

Click + Add, then choose Add custom connector.

  3. Paste the URL and name it

Enter the URL above and name it something like Cost Plus Drugs. Leave the OAuth fields under Advanced settings blank.

  4. Connect

Click Add. It connects immediately with no login prompt, and its tools appear in the connector list.

  5. Ask a question

Enable the connector for a conversation and ask away — Claude calls the tools below and answers with live pricing.

💡 On a Team or Enterprise plan, an organization owner adds the connector once under Organization Settings → Connectors → Add → Custom, then members enable it individually. For the official flow, see Anthropic's guide: Get started with custom connectors.
🔗 A version-pinned endpoint is also available at https://mcp.costplusdrugs.com/v1 if you'd rather not track changes on the root URL. Both currently expose the same tools.

Authentication

The connector endpoint itself requires no API key, token, or sign-in — any MCP client can call it directly, the same as the underlying pricing API.

⚠️ Server-side, the MCP process can be configured with an outbound FORWARD_AUTH_HEADER_NAME / FORWARD_AUTH_HEADER_VALUE pair to authenticate its own requests to the downstream pricing API. That's unrelated to client access — it never gates incoming tool calls.

Order Estimation Tools

These apply CPD's per-order billing rules — pharmacy labor charged once per shipment, cold-chain items combined into their own separate shipment — on top of raw price list data.

ToolDescription
order_estimateTotal delivered cost of a CPD mail-order (DTC) shipment for one or more prescriptions. Set autorefill to also compare the annualized cost of a 30-day supply refilled monthly vs. a 90-day supply refilled quarterly.
order_estimate_tccTotal cost of filling prescriptions through TCC at a retail pharmacy. No shipping, no combined per-order fee — each item prices independently, optionally against the nearest pharmacy when an address is given.
order_estimate_comparePrices the same prescriptions under both DTC and TCC and reports which channel is cheaper overall, with the dollar savings.

Pharmacy Locator

ToolDescription
pharmacies_tccFinds the nearest Team Cuban Card network pharmacies (up to 20) to a ZIP code or address. address is required; distance sets the search radius in miles (default 30, max 100).

Try Asking

I take lisinopril, metformin, and atorvastatin. What would all three cost delivered in one 90-day order?

Prices each at its 90-day fill, adds shipping once for the whole order, and compares that against refilling monthly one at a time.

What does it cost to treat scabies at Cost Plus?

Maps “scabies” to CPD's Anti-Parasitic category and lists the options with delivered prices.

Can I pick up atorvastatin near 60606 instead of waiting for mail?

Finds participating TCC pharmacies near that ZIP with the pickup price at each, and compares against the mail-order total.

What It Does & Doesn't

Answers

  • What a medication costs delivered to your door
  • What you save with a 90-day autorefill fill
  • The total for several prescriptions in one order
  • Pickup prices at TCC pharmacies near you
  • CPD's own condition/treatment categories

Won't Do

  • Clinical or dosing advice
  • Substitutions or drug equivalents
  • Whether a drug is right for a patient
  • Anything beyond price & availability
💊 CPD charges the dispensing fee once per prescription and shipping once per order — which is why a 90-day fill and a combined order cost far less than the monthly, one-at-a-time equivalent. A larger fill needs a prescription written for that quantity.
